Mallorca is famous for its beautiful coves hidden on the coastline called “calas”.
Some are narrow and wild, others have beautiful beaches and facilities. All are stunning with turquoise waters, beautiful stone cliffs, and lush vegetation.
Below is my selection of the 10 best calas in Mallorca with map, tips, and photos.
Before my tips + photos, here are my favorites for Mallorca:

My favorite platform to rent a car in Mallorca: DiscoverCars

The unmissable boat tour: dolphin watching from Alcudia

#1 – Calo des Moro – most beautiful cove in Mallorca

Why I love it
Calo des Moro is a stunning gem worth the effort to reach it.
It is often listed as one of the most beautiful beaches in Mallorca. The beach is actually very small, but the cove is mesmerizing.
The best part is that you can see from many angles as you walk the hiking path around it and walk down to water level.
I love:
- The color of the water
- The little headland on the sea side
- The perfect size of the cove, not too wide, not too narrow,
- The snorkeling opportunity along the cliffs
- …
Just look at the pictures above and below. I don’t think any more words are necessary… A must see even with just one week in Mallorca.

From the carpark there is 5 to 10min of a flat walk in a residential area.
You reach 2 hiking trails: the first one goes directly to Calo del Moro. It is a 10min path in nature requiring good walking shoes.
The second has stairs down to Cala S’Almonia, another coves and from this cove there is a 5min walking path to Calo del Moro (left side).
This is a very popular spot, and the beach is very small: So, in Summer there is someone regulating access to the beach. And even in shoulder season, you should visit early if you want a place to set up. - Facilities –
There are absolutely no facilities at the beach - See the best rated accommodations in Cala Llombards
#2 – Cala Beltran – best cala in Mallorca

Why I love it
Cala Beltran is the best wild cala in Mallorca, one of its hidden gems.
You don’t visit here to lie on the beach.
The waterway is long, narrow and winding. It looks like a snake of water in the landscapes.
The colors are beautiful, with turquoise water, white to orange cliffs, and vibrant green trees.
Plus the hike from Cala Pi to Cala Beltran offers stunning views of both mouths of the coves and of the calas themselves.

Practical info

Need to rent a car in Mallorca?
My tips:
- Compare prices on my favorite platform: Discovercars.com – one of the best rated comparison sites!
- Don’t choose a car too large, since some roads are very narrow
- Consider their full coverage option – it for peace of mind!
- Book early to have a large choice of vehicles!

#3 – Cala Pi – great for swimming

Why I love it
Cala Pi is one of the most beautiful coves on the island.
It is long and narrow, with tall cliffs. It is an accommodation area for tourist, but because of the size of the cliffs, you don’t feel surrounded by constructions.
The surrounding rocks are covered with lush vegetation of pines and junipers.
And it is the departure point for a great short hike to Cala Beltran (See previous cala). A great 2 for one experience.
From the hiking path, you can look back and admire Cala Pi from above, as in the picture below.
This cove is at the end of Torrent de Cala Pi. This is one of the few calas where you clearly see the path cut by the river.

Why I love it
Egos is a secluded cove at the bottom of the South-West Coast cliffs.
It requires quite an effort to reach it and to come back from it. But it is considered one of the most beautiful beaches on the island with pebbles and turquoise waters.
And if you don’t want to hike down, you can hike just a little to admire it from above.

#5 – Cala Mondrago – Cove in Nature Park

Why I love it
The Mondrago Natural Park is famous for its white sand beaches, turquoise water and protected nature.
Several hiking paths allow the visitors to find long, and small beaches, whilst admiring the cliff views.
It is popular but remains a breath of fresh air surrounded only by nature.
The main beach is Cala de Mondrago. This one is a bit wider than most in this article.
The water is crystal clear, and you can find many angles to admire it.

#7 – Cala Llombards – easy access & facilities

Why I love it
Contrary to many coves listed above, this one is really easy to access with a short flat walk from the carpark.
There are not many buildings visible, making the experience more enjoyable.
The cliffs are stunning with sharp cuts and hidden caves.
Moreover, you can walk on the side of the water to enjoy different perspectives.

#8 – Cala Figuera – fishing village

Why I love it
Cala Figuera is a completely different experience.
It has still narrow water path entering the land, but here it is a small fishermen village that has kept its charm.
It can be enjoyed at water level, discovering the traditional houses with green accent and the boat houses.
And it can be enjoyed from the top of the cliffs with mesmerizing views of turquoise waters and nature’s carving work.
Note: not to be mixed up with Cala Figuera in Formentor, another beautiful cove accessible via a steep hike.

#9 – Cala Mesquida – one of the best beaches in Mallorca

Why I love it
Cala Mesquida is the most famous beach in the area of Arta / Capedepera, and one of the best on the island.
It is a long stretch of fine sand (350m) with sand dunes at the back.
It is called a cala, but for me it is more a beach than a cove, as it is quite open.
And, contrary to many calas, the wind can be strong here and create onshore waves.
A whole resort town has developed around it, but does not bother you once on the beach, at the bottom of the cliffs.

Practical info
- With a beach?
Yes, large and long sandy beach - Location / How to get there –
North-East coast
Not far from Capdepera
Palma de Mallorca to Cala Mesquida = 1h10 drive
Alcudia to Cala Mesquida = 55 min drive - Practical Tips –

Very popular, many carparks but full in the afternoon, even in shoulder seasons. - Facilities –
Restrooms, restaurant - See the best rated accommodations in Cala Mesquida
#10 – Cala Tuent – cove and mountains

Why I love it
The North and West of the island does not have many accessible coves because of the Tramuntana mountains.
Most people visit the amazing place of Sa Calobra (see info further down) but don’t take the time for the short detour to Cala Tuent.
I think it is worth the drive.
Here, the little cove is protected by very high mountains, creating a very different scenery than those of the South East Coast.

Practical info
- With a beach?
Yes - Location / How to get there –
West Coast
10min drive from Sa Calobra
Palma de Mallorca to Cala Tuent = 1h30 drive
Alcudia to Cala Tuent = 1h30 drive - Practical Tips –
Easy access from carpark (but small carpark) - Facilities –
Restaurant above the beach with fantastic views

Best calas in Mallorca – Map & FAQs
Map of 10 best calas in Mallorca
Below is a map to help you locate the 10 coves listed in this article.

Which part of Mallorca has the best calas?
As you can see on the map above, many of the most beautiful calas are on the South-East Coast of Mallorca.
If you are looking for a change of beaches every day, this is the best option.
Cala d’Or is a large resort town centrally located to access many of the most beautiful coves.
See the best rated accommodations in Cala d’Or
The case of Sa Calobra
You might be surprised that Sa Calobra was not listed in the top 10 above.
It is because I don’t think about it as a cala. It is such a unique spot that it deserves its own list where it is alone.
Yes, I love it that much…

Other famous calas
Some may be surprised not to have seen some famous names on this list.
Well, first, this is my personal opinion.
Second, I am not a big fan of noisy places surrounded by hotels.
Third, the list can only have 10… it is not so easy to choose.
But just to keep you informed, other calas often mentioned are:
- Cala Esmeralda – surrounded by hotels
- Cala Deia – famous for its connection with the historical village of Deia
- Cala Murta (Formentor) – walk from the Formentor road
- Cala Figuera (Formentor) – steep hike down from the Formentor road

Best calas near Palma de Mallorca?
To the South-East of Palma, you can mostly find a long sandy beach.
The calas closest to Palma de Mallorca will be West of the town:
- Cala Major
- Cala Xinxell
- …
But among the most beautiful, Cala Beltran, Cala Pi and Cala d’Egos are shortest drive away from the capital.
Less crowded coves in Mallorca?
Mallorca is a very popular destination.
Therefore, many of the beaches are crowded.
To find less crowded coves in Mallorca, you have to :
- visit early
- hike to reach hidden coves
- or visit in Winter…
But be aware, that even for the coves requiring hiking, you will not be alone.
