#1 – Sa Calobra Beach – the most scenic beach in Mallorca
Why it is worth visiting…
Sa Calobra is the most unique beach in Mallorca, one of the most scenic.
No fun white sand beach but an impressive valley with the estuary of Torrent de Pareis.
A short, wonderful walk along the cliffs and through tunnels leads you to this hidden beach with pebbles.
Plus the drive down the Tramuntana mountains to reach is one of the best on the island.

#2 – Calo des Moro – best cala in Mallorca
Why it is worth visiting…
Calo des Moro is a stunning gem. It is definitively worth the effort to reach it, even if you only have a week in Mallorca.
The beach is actually very small, but the cove is mesmerizing which is why it is often listed as one of the most beautiful beaches in Mallorca.
Its unique setting offers turquoise water and snorkeling opportunity along the cliffs.
Plus the little headland makes it not too wide and not too narrow.
Just look at the pictures above and below.

Visit Tips
- Type & Size –
The beach is very, very small, but it is also very popular.
So despite the beach being stunning, the experience could not be fun.
I recommend visiting early morning for the best experience.

Near the village of Cala Llombards
Palma de Mallorca to Calo des Moro = 50min drive
Alcudia to Calo des Moro = 1h20 drive - Access & Practical Tips –
There is a large carpark well indicated. Don’t try to get closer by car, there are not other parking areas.
From the carpark there is 5 to 10min of a flat walk in a residential area.
And then, you reach 2 hiking trails: the first one goes directly to Calo del Moro. It is a 10min path in nature requiring good walking shoes.
The second has stairs down to Cala S’Almonia, another cove and from this cove there is a 5min walking path to Calo del Moro (left side).
Note that, in Summer, there is someone regulating access to the beach. - Facilities – There are absolutely no facilities at the beach. No lifeguard.
Plus, you cannot explore around as it is private property.
Bring everything you need and take back everything with you!

#3 – Platja de Formentor – best beach in Mallorca
Why it is worth visiting…
Most publications choose Platja de Formentor as the most beautiful beach in Mallorca.
I do agree that it is quite beautiful while still having all the facilities.
So as a package, it is probably the best one. But I don’t think it is the most scenic.
Formentor beach is long & sandy with shallow turquoise waters.
The half circle bay offers beautiful views of mountains covered with pine trees.

Why it is worth visiting…
Cala Pi is one of the most beautiful coves on the island.
It is long and narrow, with tall cliffs, therefore, very scenic.
The surrounding rocks are covered with lush vegetation of pines and junipers.
And it is the departure point for a great short hike to Cala Beltran. A great 2 for one experience.
From the hiking path, you can look back and admire Cala Pi from above, as in the picture below.

#5 + 6 – Cala Mondrago & Cala S’Amarador
Why it is worth visiting…
The Mondrago Natural Park is famous for its white sand beaches, turquoise water and protected nature.
Several hiking paths allow the visitors to find long, and small beaches, whilst admiring the cliff views.
It is popular but I think it remains a breath of fresh air as it is surrounded only by nature.
The main beach is Cala de Mondrago. This one is a bit wider than most in this article.
The other large beach is Cala s’Amarador.
The water is crystal clear.

Cala Mesquida is the most famous beach in the area of Arta and Capedepera.
It is a long stretch of fine sand (350m) with sand dunes at the back.
It is quite a different experience than the other calas on the island.

Alcudia Bay is a large area with a long sandy beach all along: 3km long!
It is cut into 3 main “towns”:
- Port d’Alcudia (West side) – more town than resort, with the beautiful end of the lagoon and the port
- Platja de Muro (middle) – many accommodations feet on the beach
- Can Picafort (East) – wide choice of accommodations and restaurants
You can walk along the beach for a long time with beautiful views and a lagoon at one end.

Why it is worth visiting…
Cala Agulla is another famous beach. Located near Capdepera, it is often listed as one of the top ones.
Personally I did not enjoy it.
However, for those looking for a day at the beach, I can understand the attractions because of the fine sand, and the fact that there is more space than many other beaches.
What I enjoy though, were the pine trees behind it!
