Where to stay in Palma: map of best neighborhoods and areas
But more than the question of the hotel, there are different areas to consider that all have their advantages and drawbacks.
Map of neighborhoods to stay in Palma
In this article, I am not listing all the neighborhoods, but the general areas where it is best to stay in Palma.
Let’s start by getting you oriented.
Here is a map, before I share the pros and cons of each of those areas.
How to choose – summary
Next I will share the pros and cons of each area, but here is a snapshot:
- For a weekend stay exploring the town, stay in Llotja or Plaça Major
- For a beach vacation (where you want space to walk), stay in Gan Pastilla
- For a luxury relaxing stay with sea views, stay in Paseo Maritimo
- For a luxury beach stay, choose Portals Nous
Main tips to keep in mind when choosing your hotel
- Book early to have a larger choice and good prices
- Always check the parking conditions if you plan on renting a car – parking in Palma can be difficult and / or expensive. Take in into account in your budget and frustration level.
- When staying in the old town, if you plan on visiting the rest of the island, take traffic into account. This is the largest town. If you are staying for a week, I would stay a couple of days in Palma and the rest of the stay outside Palma. See my article about where to stay in Mallorca.
And to get to your hotel from the airport:

Area 1 – Old town Llotja
The Ljotja area is located around Sa Llotja, un chef d’oeuvre d’architecture gothique. It is a small series of streets West of the Cathedral.
It is surrounded by narrow streets with charming and colorful buildings.
Overall, the Llotja area in Palma de Mallorca is a great choice for visitors who want to experience the heart of the city’s cultural and nightlife scene. However, if you are looking for a quiet and peaceful holiday, you may want to consider other areas around town.
Why stay in the Llotja area
Central location
The Llotja area is located in the heart of Palma de Mallorca, making it a great starting point for exploring the attractions, shopping areas, and restaurants. It is very close to the cathedral and royal palace. Very practical to explore everything on foot!
Historical charm
The Llotja area is full of historical buildings, narrow streets, and beautiful architecture, providing a unique and charming atmosphere that you sure will enjoy. I really enjoy just walking around, soaking up the history and atmosphere.
Nightlife
The Llotja area is home to a vibrant nightlife scene, with plenty of bars, clubs, and restaurants offering entertainment until the early hours of the morning.
Why not stay in the Ljotja area
For all the advantages there are, of course, drawbacks
Noisy
Due to its central location and lively atmosphere, the Llotja area can be quite noisy, especially during peak tourist season. If you need quiet to be able to sleep at night, this is not the best options for you.
Crowded
Again, this is related. The area is crowded, especially during Summer. So be aware, that it could be difficult to navigate the narrow streets.
Limited parking options
If you plan on renting a car during your stay, it can be challenging to find parking in the Llotja area. You will have to use the underground carparks or the marina carparks, and parking fees can be quite expensive.
Price
In terms of quality accommodations, you can find mostly 4 and 5 stars hotels.
