Mallorca 10-day itinerary: map of road trip
Before all the details, let’s start with a simplified map to give you an idea of the amazing areas covered by this 10 day itinerary:
Visiting Mallorca in 10 days (or 2 weeks): essentials to know
Are 10 days enough to explore Mallorca?
10 days are a great time to explore the island, as it is quite larger as everyone imagines.
You will be able to explore the main town Palma, the most beautiful beaches and the stunning mountains plus explore off the beaten path places.
And if you are lucky to have 2 weeks, you can add even more off the beaten paths places, or add some days at the beach or add a trip to the sister island of Menorca!
In the following itinerary, I like to pack a lot to see, so make sure to adapt to your pace of travel!
Mallorca is a very inspiring and varies island!
How to get to Mallorca
Mallorca has a very large airport. There are many flights from most European countries. Compare flight prices on Skyscanner
But you can also arrive by ferry from Barcelona or Valencia (roughly 8h crossing) – check out ferry options
How to get around Mallorca
It is possible to explore some areas without a car: There are guided tours that can take you to the most famous places: caves, cliffs…
But Mallorca is so much more than that with many viewpoints, stunning roads and hidden gems to discover…
I really think renting a car is the best way to discover the island.
- Compare prices on my favorite platform: Discovercars.com – one of the best rated comparison sites!
- Choose your car and company (prefer a smaller car for the narrow roads)
- Consider their full coverage option (I recommend it because of the narrow roads)
- Book early – there is limited supply as it is an island. Especially for Summer, make sure you can get a car, if booking your flights last minute.

10 days in Mallorca: Where to stay
Understanding the island
The island is bigger than one imagined. And there is much to do and visit.
You have to plan ahead to balance your driving times and group places to see by areas.
Below is a map with the main driving times to give you perspective:
My recommendation
My perfect itinerary would include 3 accommodations. This allows you to enjoy different vibes of the island and to reduce travel times by exploring the area close to your accommodation.
- 5 nights in Port d’Alcudia – see best rated accommodations
- 3 nights in Cala d’or (for all amenities) – see best rated accommodations – or Cala Figuera village (for charm) – see best rated accomodations
- 2 nights in Palma de Mallorca – see best rated accommodations – no driving required
The following 10 days have been grouped by area to match those accommodation choices.
But I understand if you don’t like to change hotels and pack all the times.
You can stay in just one place, just know that it means more driving tiles every day. And then you can switched the days of this itinerary.
Where to stay in general
- For a choice of restaurants and a main town – see best rated accommodations in Palma
- For beach + practical location to explore – see best rated accommodations in Port d’Alcudia

- For families – see Port’Alcudia or see best rated accommodations in Cala Millor or in Colonia Sant Jordi
More tips on my article about where to stay in Mallorca.
Day 1 – Alcudia medieval town and beach
Let’s start with an easy day, especially if you are staying in Port d’Alcudia.
Stop 1 – Ruins of Pollentia
One of the top things to do in Alcudia, is to visit the Roman Ruins of Pollentia.
It is the most important archaeological site from Roman times on Mallorca.
Founded in the 1st century BC, at a strategic location, it was the capital of Mallorca during the Romans.
The visit include the theatre, the forum and the residential area of La Portella.
45min from Palma de Mallorca
Easy to park and access
Stop 2 – Alcudia Medieval Town
When people talk about Alcudia in Mallorca, they often to Port d’Alcudia the large resort town where many travelers stay.
However, Alcudia is actually the Roman settlement inland from the harbor.
Founded around 70 BC by the Romans, the old town of Alcudia has a lot of character.
The maze of narrow alleys is surrounded by walls and impressive gates on which you can walk.
It is home to many architectural wonders from various eras including old Roman ruins.
Read my article with the best things to do.
Stop 3 – Port d’Alcudia Beach
Alcudia Bay is a large area with a long sandy beach all along: 3km long!
It is cut into 3 main “towns”:
- Port d’Alcudia (West side) – more town than resort, with the beautiful end of the lagoon and the port
- Platja de Muro (middle) – many accommodations feet on the beach
- Can Picafort (East) – wide choice of accommodations and restaurants
You can walk along the beach for a long time with beautiful views and a lagoon at one end.
And it is a great place to relax and enjoy water activities.
A famous location to watch sunrise.
Many watersport-activites are offered: sailing, paddle, parasailing…
Stop 3 Alternative – Necropolis de Son Real
From Cases de Son Real, trails take you on walks under pine trees all the way to the coast where you can find ancient ruins of military towers.
The highlight is the necropolis right at the edge of the coast. The walls are well preserved to understand how the tombs were set up.
It dates back to the 8th century BC.
Nearby you can also find prehistoric burial caves and walls.
Free access
Plan 1h30 to 3h depending on how much of the coast you want to explore
Day 2 – Cape Formentor & Pollença
Stop 1 – Explore the cliffs of Cape Formentor
Go explore Cape Formentor. It offers grandiose scenery with steep cliffs.
Some of my favorite places:
- Mirador es Colomer to discover the magnificent cliffs
- Albertcrutx tower to see the entire headland (off the beaten paths)
- Drive to Formentor lighthouse (if opened to car – In Summer months, it is closed and you have to take a shuttle from Formentor beach.
Attention, to explore this area there are many organisational elements to consider, so learn more in my article about Cape Formentor.
Stop 2 – Relax at Formentor Beach
Most publications choose Platja de Formentor as the most beautiful beach in Mallorca.
I do agree that it is quite beautiful while still having all the facilities.
So as a package, it is probably the best one. But I don’t think it is the most scenic.
Formentor beach is long & sandy with shallow turquoise waters.
The half circle bay offers beautiful views of mountains covered with pine trees.
Plan ahead, parking can get difficult in high season!
You can also reach it by boat from Port de Alcudia or Port de Pollença – see options
Stop 3 – Pollença
Pollenca (Pollença / Pollensa) has been settled since Prehistoric times.
The town is full of history and splendid views. It is now attracting many artists.
From the main large square you can explore narrow alleys and find interesting buildings.
But the main attraction is the staircase to the Calvari, a sanctuary on top of a hill with beautiful views of the region.
And you can also walk on an old Roman Bridge!
Day 3 – Capdepera and Arta
Today we head to an area that is a little less visited, and we travel through time.
Stop 1 – Arta Santuari de San Salvador
Located on top a 182m (597ft) high hill, the Arta Sanctuary is mostly interesting for the 360° views of the region.
The well-restored walls surround an oval area with the sanctuary, a house and the cistern from the 17th century.
The current church dates back to 1832 as the 13th century one was burnt down following the bubonic plague.
Free access – Plan 1h
Small carpark at the top (around 10 cars) – large carpark at the bottom of the hill – steep slope to climb
Stop 2 – Ses Paisses archaeological site
This Bronze Age Talayotic settlement is one of the best preserved on the island of Mallorca.
Its most interesting feature is the surrounding wall with the main entrance – the perimeter is around 374m long and dates back to the 6th century BC.
The size and setup of the rocks is fascinating.
Inside, the visitor can discover the typical structure of houses around a central tower. There are signs explaining the various structures and their use.
2 Euros
Open 10am to 5pm (to 2pm on Sat and closed on Sun)
Plan 30min to 1h depending on your level of interest
Stop 3 – Capdepera Fort
The town is mostly famous for its castle.
Located on top a hill, the Castell de Capdepera and its strategic location has a long history.
First built during the 14th century, it protected the inhabitants from pirates’ attacks. In the 16th century, there were 125 houses inside the walls.
And in the 18th century it was used as a military complex.
It is a fascinating structure with great views.
Learn more about Capdepera.
Stop 4 – Capdepera lighthouse and cliffs
Capdepera has one of the best lighthouses on the island.
Located on Punta de Capdepera, the lighthouse started in 1861 and its light is at 76m above sea level.
The lighthouse can be admired from quite close, and it is located on a rocky headland with coves.
The best part is that you can do a short hike around to enjoy great perspectives towards the lighthouse and sea views.
Stop 5 – Arta Caves
I think the best cave on the island is Coves d’Arta, a.k.a. the Arta Caves.
They are not the best for photography, but the visit brought me to tears.
I visited it last, so I was worried about getting bored, but on the contrary, I had a blast!
I especially loved:
- The impressive entrance in the sea cliff facing the water,
- The impressive size of the columns and stalagmites,
- The quantity of columns,
- The nice size of the group, not too big,
- The music experience. Exactly what I was hoping (as I was disappointed in the other caves… no details, I am not spoiling the surprise for you!).
Just know that because of its situation, the cave has been inhabited a long time, and there are a lot of dark colors compared to other caves, because of that.
Entrance every 30 minutes
10am to 5pm
Tour is guided and takes around 40 minutes
Check out latest info on official website
Alternative – if you are not interested by too many historical side, head to Cala Mesquida beach
Cala Mesquida is the most famous beach in the area of Arta and Capedepera
It is a long stretch of fine sand (350m) with sand dunes at the back.It is quite a different experience than the other calas on the island.
Here the wind can be strong and create onshore waves.
A resort town has developed around it, but does not bother you once on the beach, at the bottom of the cliffs.
Day 4 – Sa Calobra and Port de Soller
Stop 1 – Col dels Reis
Sa Calobra is the most beautiful gem on Mallorca island. But even before reaching this hidden beach, the road leading to it is probably one of the most photographed views in Mallorca.
From the mountain pass Col de Reis, you can see the road niched in the mountains winding its way down towards the sea.
Stop 2 – Sa Calobra
Sa Calobra is the most unique beach in Mallorca, one of the most scenic.
No fun white sand beach but an impressive valley with the estuary of Torrent de Pareis.
A short, wonderful walk along the cliffs and through tunnels leads you to this hidden beach with pebbles.
But visit early to avoid the crowds!
See more photos and my tips.
Stop 3 – Fortnalutx
Fornalutx was once called ‘Spain’s Prettiest Village’. And, in my opinion, is the best village in Mallorca.
It offers beautifully preserved with stone houses, staircases and narrow alleys at the foot of rocky mountains.
You can enjoy the charm of the cafés with views of the Tramuntana mountains, including Puig Major, the highest peak in Mallorca.
If you decide to visit, the top things not to miss are:
- The many stone houses that are well maintained
- The views of Puig Major (1447m)
- The church Nativitat de la Mare de Deu (built 1230 to 1639)
- The Can Carbona from the 16th century with its defensive square tower from the 17th.
- The many charming alleys
Stop 4 – Port de Soller
Natural harbour isolated at the foot of the Tramuntana mountains, Port de Soller is very picturesque.
Before the tunnel, it was really isolated, so it was somewhat preserved from the overdevelopment.
The bay is bordered by sandy beaches. However, the entire seafront area is now only touristic with restaurants, bars and souvenir shops.
And it is famous for its vintage wooden tram, linking it to the old town of Soller.
Learn more about Port de Soller.
Stop 5 – Far de Cap Gros
Enjoy fantastic views of Port de Soller with the Tramuntana mountains in the background.
You can see the lighthouse all along the way. But access to the lighthouse is prohibited (take a picture through the gate).
The best part of the route are the views which are even more spectacular at sunset.
To get here, take a 2km narrow road from West Port de Soller. There are few parking spaces along the way.
But it is best to walk along the road from Playa d’en Repic. Es Far del Cap Gros is also a stop on hiking trails to Refugi de Muleta.
There are no cafés or restaurants along the way.
One of the best views in Mallorca.
Day 5 – Valldemossa & coastal mountains
Note, this day can also be pushed to the end of the trip, to be taken from Palma de Mallorca. It would require less driving. However, getting out of Palma de Mallorca by car is not always enjoyable, so you can do it now and stay in Palma without driving.
Stop 1 – Valldemossa
The mountain village of Valldemossa became famous in 1839 when George Sand and Frederic Chopin stayed for a winter. The famous composer stated that it is ‘The Most Beautiful Place in the World’.
At an altitude of 400m (1312ft), the village is full of charming streets with old stone houses. Locals decorate with lots of vegetation, highlighting the character.
In this village, it feels like traveling back in time.
However, as it is a very popular place, they fill up quickly. Visit before 10am.
Don’t miss:
- The main square & the garden King Juan Carlos behind
- The Royal Charterhouse (Carthusian monastery) – origin in 1399 and the King Sancho Palace — see website
- Chopin Museum – see website
- Explore the alleys in the village to find some beautiful gems
- Note – opening hours are not always applied as written
Stop 2 – Monestir de Miramar
On Ma-10, everybody stops at the Sa Foradada viewpoint and many visit the Son Maroig estate, famous for one of the most romantic viewpoints on the island.
But, if you are looking for charm and fewer people, I recommend a visit of the nearby Miramar Monastery.
Niched between sea and mountains, it has been occupied by various religious orders since the Middle Ages.
In 1872, it was purchased by Austrian Archduke Ludwig Salvator who invited artists, intellectuals and royals to stay there.
The building, church, garden and park are picturesque and peaceful.
Plan 1 to 2h (depending on if you explore the entire park.
3€ – Mon to Sat: 10am to 5:45pm (Summer and Autumn)
Official website
Stop 3 – Mirador De Sa Foradada & Son Marroig
Between Valldemossa and Deia, the estate of Son Marroig offers incredible views of the rugged coastline. The oldest part of the estate is from the 15h and 16th century. And it has been updated in the 19th century by the Austrian Archduke Ludwig Salvator.
It has become famous as the most romantic spot in the island with the white marble pavilion overlooking the cliffs and gardens.
4 euros – Plan 1h for house and garden / Mon to Sat 9:30am to 2pm & 3:30pm to 4:30pm – Closed Sun
Website
The Mirador De Sa Foradada next to it is free to access.
Extra stop – Deia
If you enjoy villages, you can also stop at Deia, a charming village in the Tramuntana that has attracted many artists.
But parking is difficult.
Stop 4 – Jardines de Alfabia
Inland, you can also find old fincas surrounded my magnificent gardens.
In Jardines de Alfabia, there are several water features, trees and views worth the visit. In the picture above, you can see the cistern with the reflections of the garden.
Mar to October – everyday 9:30 am to 6:30pm / 7.50€ – Plan 2 hours – website
Day 6 – Calo des Moro and Cala Figuera
Stop 1 – Calo des Moro
30min drive fro Cala d’or
Calo des Moro is a stunning gem worth the effort to reach it.It is often listed as one of the most beautiful beaches in Mallorca. The beach is actually very small, but the cove is mesmerizing. The best part is that you can see from many angles as you walk the hiking path around it and walk down to water level.
I love:
- The color of the water
- The little headland on the sea side
- The perfect size of the cove, not too wide, not too narrow,
- The snorkeling opportunity along the cliffs
- …
Just look at the pictures above and below. I don’t think any more words are necessary…
But come early if you truly want to enjoy it!
See more in my dedicated article (access is not easy).
Stop 2 – Cala Figuera
25 min drive from Cala d’Or
Cala Figuera is a completely different experience.
It has still narrow water path entering the land, but here it is a small fishermen village that has kept its charm.
It can be enjoyed at water level, discovering the traditional houses with green accent and the boat houses.
And it can be enjoyed from the top of the cliffs with mesmerizing views of turquoise waters and nature’s carving work.
Note: not to be mixed up with Cala Figuera in Formentor, another beautiful cove accessible via a steep hike.
Easier to park at the top (GPS in eBook) and walk down to the fishing port (steep narrow road)
Stop 3 – Relax in Cala d’Or
Take your time to enjoy Cala d’or.
It is home to several small coves.
The most famous is Cala Esmeralda with beautiful rocks and trees. Facing South East. Extremely popular. Parking is difficult. Hotels all around.
Others are Cala Gran, Cala Serena, Cala Petita and Cala Ferrera.
If you want to find beautiful viewpoints in between those stops: check out my eBook with practical maps to plan everything:

Day 7 – Caves and Inland
Stop 1 – Drach Caves
The Drach Caves are the most popular on the island.
I think the caves are beautiful but the experience is not for everyone, and you should be aware of the reality of the tour.
Pros:
- Lots of beautiful structures in good conditions
- Several chambers
- High quantity of small stalactites falling from the ceilings
- Lake Martel, which is one of the largest subterranean lakes in the world (177m long and 30m wide)
- Music is with live musicians
Cons:
- The groups are huge – 420 people max – you are hoarded along the path
- For the music experience, it takes 15minutes for everyone to sit and 10 for everyone to leave…
- The choice of music is not what I was hoping for (but that is a personal preference)
Guided tour takes 1h10
Every hour
Check out the latest info on the official website
Stop 2 – Hams cave: extra visit or instead
If you love caves, you can add another one that is close by and quite different.
I was so surprised how different the experience is at Hams’ caves, despite being so close to Drach Caves. Its tour includes 2 sections.
Pros:
- While you wait to go in each area, you sit under the giant open cave with vegetation
- The first video documentary in the Blue Cave is quite interesting and the right length
- The classic cave is home to a unique feature called Fishhooks. The geologists still can’t explain their formations.
Cons:
- There are a lot fewer structures to look at, chambers are small
- The music experience is very strange in my opinion (but maybe Germans will enjoy it)
- There is quite a lot of waiting time
The tour with both visits lasts 1h
Groups of reasonable size
Check out the latest info on the official website.
Pre-book your ticket here (it guarantees your entrance but does not reduce the lines that much…)
Stop 3 – Sineu
In the heart of Mallorca (geographically in the center), Sineu is one of the most beautiful towns on the island.
The streets of the old center are lined up with stone houses and interesting architecture.
The church and its traditional Mallorcan architecture stands out at the top of the hill.
Don’t miss:
- The Typical Mallorcan church (Santa Maria) with side arches and a separate bell tower (and 7 bells).
- The charming main square by the church
- The town hall located in a 17th century convent with a beautiful cloister
- The narrow street with stone houses and green shutters
- The convent de la Concepcio and Palace of the kings
Day 8 – Mondrago Natural Park
Stop 1 – Walk #2 on the coastline of Mondrago
The Mondrago Natural Park is famous for its white sand beaches, turquoise water and protected nature.
Several hiking paths allow the visitors to find long and small beaches, whilst admiring the cliff views.
It is popular but remains a breath of fresh air surrounded only by nature.
15min drive from Cala d’Or
Start with the beautiful hike #2 along the cliffs and to the tiny beach of Calo des Borgit: Gorgeous views, pine trees and a bunker
Stop 2 – Relax at one of the 2 main beaches
Choose one fo the 2 beaches, to enjoy the clear waters:
- Main beach with restaurants: Cala Mondrago
- The longest beach: Cala S’Amarador
Stop 3 – Es Forti
Back in Cala d’Or, you can go explore the 18th century fortress Es Forti, opposite the town, on the headland. It offers great views of the bay with all the calas.
Day 9 – Palma Highlights (avoid Sundays and Mondays)
Stop 1 – Visit the Cathedral and cloister
The interiors of the Cathedral are as beautiful as its exteriors.
It is called the Cathedral of lights for its stained-glass windows. The rose window in particular fills up the interiors with colored hues of the morning light.
You can even add a visit to the terrace to your Cathedral tour. The terrace offers excellent panoramic views. Children under 8 are not allowed on the terrace.
- Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 10:00 hrs to 17:15 hrs, Saturdays from 10:00 hrs to 14:15 hrs
- Price: 7 Euros (without terrace)

Next to the Cathedral is yet another emblematic monument of Palma: The Royal Palace of Almudaina.
The Palace which enjoys the status of an Alcazar was built during the Moorish times and later reconstructed by James II in the 14th century.
Today, it is also used as one of the official residences of the royal family.
The chapel inside the Palace is lovely. You can also visit the terrace for views of the coastline of Palma de Mallorca.

Make sure you check these out for lovely views.
Admire the beauty of the fortified walls and its many gates.
Access to this is free.
Stop 4 – A quick visit to the Arab Baths
The Arab baths are the only remains of the Arab city of Medina Mayurqa.
The baths were built from the remains of the earlier constructions in their place which date back to the Roman, Muslim, and Byzantine periods.
The Arab style of columns, arches, and doorways are unique compared to other monuments in Palma.
There is also a small garden near the bath that’s lovely for relaxing.
You can also watch a small video to acquaint yourself with the history of the Arab Baths.
- Opening hours: 10 am to 6:30 pm
- Price: 3 Euros
Stop 5 – Stroll Rest of city center (less historical part)
Explore the streets, go for a walk without a goal in mind. Along the way you will discover:
- Plaça Major, a typical busy Spanish square in the heart of Palma
- a high number of Art Deco or Art Nouveau buildings such as Can Roca, Can Forteza, Can Coll, Gran Hotel.
- the charming patios around which the houses are built.
- truly unique trees, such as the old olive tree classified as a unique tree
Stop 6 – Finish the day relaxing around the Parc de la Mar lagoon
One of the most enjoyable places in Palma is the Parc de la Mar lagoon.
It is located in front of the Cathedral, with perfect views of it over the water.
There is an artificial lake with a beautiful fountain here.
You will also find interesting modern sculptures in the park.
It is a great place to relax, walk around and take in the views of the Mediterranean sea.
I don’t drink coffee
But I also like other drinks and sweets!
