1 – Cala’n Porter – a unique place in Menorca

Why I like it…
Cala’n Porter is one of Menorca’s most important seaside resorts. It is attached to the municipality of the village of Alaior. I was carried away by the scenery and really enjoyed the fact that it’s not very busy in the mornings. And best of all, you can easily get there without necessarily planning a hike. A real advantage in Menorca!
It’s a well-known seaside resort on the island, but it’s not overcrowded with tourists all day long. The locals were welcoming, as is often the case in Menorca. Long sandy beach at Cala’n Porter with clear turquoise water, shallow at first. The beach opens onto a mouth between 2 30m-high cliffs, giving a glimpse of catamarans and other boats docking before setting sail again.
What I love:
- The color of water
- The landscape: clear water, fine sand, cliffs
- The perfect size of the cove, neither too wide nor too narrow
- Snorkeling along the cliffs and kayaking in the surrounding area
- Sea caves and viewpoints for exceptional panoramas
Just take a look at the photos above and you’ll see. I don’t think any further explanation is necessary… Not to be missed, even if you only have a week in Menorca.

2 – Cala Blanca – Minorca’s best coves and beaches

Why I like it…
To the west of Menorca near Ciutadella, Cala Blanca is a relaxing cove overlooking the coast of Mallorca when the sky is clear. I felt soothed watching these rocks forming a huge corridor that opens out into the Mediterranean Sea. This is a good option if you’re with the family, as the beach is easy to access and shallow.
There can be a lot of algae in this area, but the beach is regularly cleaned. If you like treasure hunts and want to discover this cove by sea, opt for a tour by kayak with treasure hunt which will take you to Cala Blanca.
I love :
- The color of water and shades of blue
- The view of Mallorca’s coastline

I recommend staying either close to one of the 2 main towns, Ciutadella or Port Mahon, or in one of the charming little villages all over the island. You’ll enjoy good restaurants, typical markets and their picturesque atmosphere. For example, you could opt for:
- Hotel Gran Melia Villa Le Blanc Hotel in Santo Tomas – View photos & availability
- Hotel Catalonia Mirador des Port, overlooking the natural harbour of Mahon – View photos & availabilities
- Hotel Smoix Hotel, in the old town of Ciutadella – View photos and availability

3 – Sa Caleta – unexpected beauty on Minorca

Why I like it…
Sa Caleta is located on the west side of the island. Numerous boats and sailboats dock in the cove, and as I walked along the rocks, I discovered a tiny, secluded beach just a quarter of an hour’s walk from Cala Blanca. From Sa Caleta, I could see Mallorca’s coastline on the horizon in daylight, and even between the sublime shades of sunset later in the afternoon.
It’s also a good spot for snorkeling, as the water is transparent and not too rough. You may be lucky enough to spot schools of fish, especially near the rocks!
I love:
- The color of water
- The exquisite view of Mallorca’s coastline
- The perfect size of the cove, neither too wide nor too narrow
- Snorkeling at several points (on the creek side on the left, and further down the beach on the right).
- The calm once I’d sat down on the rocks to admire the view at sunrise and sunset
The creek forms a kind of U from the boat mooring to the small, intimate beach near a residential area.

4 – Cala Galdana – Minorca’s most famous coves and beaches

Why I like it…
Cala Galdana is one of Menorca’s largest seaside resorts, and probably the best known. In the south-east of the island, it is attached to the municipality of Ferreries. Located very close to Cala Mitjana, another must-see beach and cove in Menorca, a 20-25min forest hiking trail takes you there from the beach.
I love:
- its extensive sandy beach and turquoise waters
- its cove where beautiful boats dock, offering a panorama worthy of a painting
- its restaurants and lively nightlife
- beautiful hotels and accommodation to suit all tastes
This long sandy beach bordered by cliffs was a beautiful canvas to admire in the morning or at sunset. The famous beach of Cala Macarella can also be reached after a few tens of minutes’ walk from Cala Galdana. Various cruises are organized from this seaside resort. Let yourself be seduced by the glass-bottomed boats which will offer you a show you won’t forget!!

- Don’t choose a car too large, since some roads are very narrow
- Consider their full coverage option – it for peace of mind!
- Book early to have a large choice of vehicles!

5 – Cala Mitjana

Why I like it…
Cala Mitjana is one of Menorca’s best-known beaches and coves. I immersed myself in Menorcan nature by hiking through the forest before reaching the beach and cove. Along the way, I even spotted some old lime kilns, common on Menorca and a testament to how self-sufficient and sustainable this rustic island once was.
The sandbar isn’t wide, but the color of the water and the surroundings lined with white striated rocks and lush green trees are worth the detour!
I love:
- The hike through the forest to get there and the old lime kilns along the way
- The wild beauty of Cala Mitjana
- The horseback rides to admire this cove, a stopover on the Cami de Cavalls
- Snorkeling along the cliffs
Make sure you get there early enough in the morning to avoid the crowds and secure a parking space, even if it’s quite spacious compared to others on the island. For snorkeling enthusiasts, I’ve found this to be an ideal spot for observing marine biodiversity, but only at low tide. Have a nice swim!

#6 – Cala Torret – magical sunset in Minorca

Why I like it…
Cala Torret is a charming cove near the white coastal village of Binibeca Vell. It’s a popular spot for kayakers and sun-lovers, who enjoy magical moments lulled by the sound of ripples at sunrise and sunset.
The advantage? Whether you’re an experienced water sports enthusiast or a beginner, there’s something for everyone! In fact, it was from this cove that I set off on my transparent kayak excursion.
I love:
- The color of water
- Kayak around the creek to visit the sea caves
- Moored boats and yachts
- Snorkeling along the rocks
- Binibeca beach is a 10-minute walk from this cove
The village of Binibeca Vell, the beach of Binibeca (one of the most beautiful in Menorca in my opinion) and the cove of Cala Torret are worth a visit even if you only have a week in Menorca.

I highly recommend the Binibeca: guided transparent kayak tour.
In just 2 hours, you’ll experience an unforgettable moment: a glimpse of the turquoise waters without diving, in the magical coves, caves and beach of Binibeca.

7 – Cala Turqueta

Why I like it…
Looking for a wild beach with no hotels, restaurants or stores on the horizon? Cala Turqueta (or Cala en Turqueta) is one of the stops on the Cami de Cavalls hiking trail, so it’s accessible by bike or on horseback. It’s narrow, but immersed me in Menorca’s verdant, rocky nature. The setting is truly beautiful, with white sand preceding the clear waters of the sea.
I love:
- The color of water
- The quiet, peaceful path that leads to this cove
- Snorkeling along the rocks
- The place of the surrounding vegetation
The surrounding rocks are covered with pines, olive trees and oaks, forming an elegant green mantle that can be a little surprising near a beach.

Practical info
- With a beach?
Yes, a small sandy beach - Location / How to get there?

8 – Cala en Bosch

Why I like it…
Cala’n Bosc is part of the municipality of Ciutadella, in the west of Menorca. Despite its touristy feel, the beauty of the place really stood out for me: the fine white sand, the turquoise waters, the view of the horizon, the many palm trees lining the beach. I felt quite comfortable here, as the beach is quite wide with an unobstructed view.
On site, you’ll enjoy a wide choice of accommodation, easy access to the beach (a big plus!), volleyball courts and a connection to the main road for exploring the island.
I love:
- The color of the water, the fine sand and the red rock
- The various facilities on and around the beach
- The perfect size of the cove, with a fairly wide beach compared with others in Menorca.
It’s a famous spot in Menorca that can get very crowded in high season (July and August in particular), and I understood why when I went there! Just take a look at these photos.

On site, you can choose from a wide range of accommodation of all types with easy access to the beach, activities suitable for all ages and proximity to famous landmarks such as the Puente d’En Gil natural bridge or the Punta Nati lighthouse.
I love :
- The color of water

Following a narrow path along the shore away from the busy area, you’ll discover a pretty cove surrounded by typical houses. I love :

Menorca’s best coves – Map + Frequently asked questions
Here’s a map to help you locate the 12 coves listed in this article.

Which part of Menorca has the most beautiful coves?
As you can see from the map above, many of the most beautiful coves are on Menorca’s south coast.
If you’re looking for a change of beach every day, this is the best option.
Cala’n Porter is a seaside resort whose ideal location and natural landscape allow you to enjoy both the hustle and bustle of urbanization, the cove and its imposing cliffs, the sublime beach and the nearby sea caves.
View top-rated accommodations in Cala’n Porter

Other popular coves
Some may be surprised not to see other famous names on this list.
Firstly, this is my personal opinion.
Secondly, I’m not a big fan of noisy places surrounded by hotels.
Thirdly, the list can only have a maximum of 12… it’s not so easy to choose.
But just to keep you informed, other calas that are often mentioned are :
- Cala Macarella – typical and difficult to access to protect it (boat, bus or hike only).
- Cala Pregonda – famous for its different landscape with almost red sand
- Cala Morell – beach, cliffs and prehistoric remains
- Cala Es Talaier – one of Menorca’s smallest coves
The most beautiful coves near Ciutadella?
To the west of Menorca, near Ciuatdella, you’ll find mainly coves with fine sandy beaches.
The nearest calas to Ciutadella on the west of the island are :
- Cala Blanca
- Sa Caleta
- Cala en Bosch

The best coves near Port Mahon?
To the east of Menorca, near the capital Port Mahon, you’ll find a long sandy beach (Sa Mesquida).
The nearest calas to Port Mahon are to the east of the island:
- Cala Llonga
- Cala Corb
- Cala Addaia
A little further south by car (about 25min), you’ll find Cala Torret, one of my favorites for sunset and sunrise views.
Minorca’s less-frequented coves?
Minorca is a very popular destination, despite its unspoilt and somewhat wild appearance.
As a result, many beaches and coves are full.
To find less crowded coves in Menorca, you must :
- get there early
- hike to hidden coves
- or visit in winter…
But even for coves that require a hike, you won’t be alone.
