Why visit Binibeca in Menorca?
Is Binibeca worth a visit?
Binibeca beach is one of the most beautiful in my opinion in Menorca, with its fine sand, turquoise water and docked catamarans and sailboats. It’s located in the south-east of the island, close to the picturesque village of Binibèquer Vell.
It’s a child-friendly beach, with shallow waters. You’ll even find a bin with games and reusable beach accessories (many beaches have them) to give these objects a 2nd life. There are also a few shady spots. It’s a perfect area for snorkeling and getting to know Menorca’s marine life. If you’re keen on water activities, you can try your hand at transparent kayaking and cave touring with snorkeling.

The reality of Binibeca – atypical little village or tourist complex?
Binibeca (or Binibequer Vell) is more an unusual little village than a massive tourist resort (one of the best in Menorca). Famous for its Mediterranean-style architecture, white thatched houses and picturesque atmosphere, the village was designed in the 1970s to recreate the traditional look of local fishing villages. I loved Binibeca’s traditional style, its narrow, winding streets and white facades.
The good thing is that the village and its beach are not a major tourist center. Its modest size helps to maintain a peaceful atmosphere.
Although Binibeca has an authentic character, it remains a popular tourist destination, especially during the summer season. This can lead to an increase in visitor numbers during the busiest months.

How difficult is it to get to Binibeca?
The road is fairly straightforward, with a few curves but no major difficulties. Bus 93 runs from the capital Port Mahon to the village of Binibeca, with regular trips every day (see below). The beach is also accessible by boat or kayak.

How to get to Binibeca
There are several options for getting to Binbeca:
- The easiest option by car: After taking the main Me-1 axis, take the Me-8 road if you’re arriving from the west (Ciutadella). There are few curves and the road is not hilly. Please note that there are no freeways in Menorca, but the roads are paved, clearly signposted and in very good condition. I strongly advise you to rent a car if you don’t have one at your disposal on site to be freer of your movements. The best way to make the most of the island and its magical corners! From Port Mahon (or the airport) to Binibeca, allow 25min for the drive. From Ciutadella to Binibeca, about 1h drive.

- the boat, an original but not very flexible option : you can access this magnificent beach and its fishing village by opting for a boat tour. Please note that the tours are organized and therefore on specific time slots.

- Public transport like the bus: getting to Binibeca (or Binibequer Vell) by bus or public transport is conceivable, but I’d like to give you a few points to bear in mind. Indeed, you will be dependent on these means of transport to get around, as there are few options on site. Timetables and routes vary according to the time of year, so check out the official Menorca public transport website here.

Binibeca parking and parking regulations
Check in advance if your accommodation has a parking lot or parking space. There aren’t many parking options in Binibeca :
- The nearest to the beach is the Cala Binibequer parking lot near Carrer de S’Amfos Blau,
- Free parking is available further west of the beach on Carrer de Sancora,
- Finally, on Carrer des Timo you’ll find a parking lot with a few shaded spaces,
- If you’re lucky, you can also find free parking in the alleyways, but this can be difficult as they are quite narrow and the area is residential. Try to arrive early for easier parking.

Need to rent a car in Menorca?
My tips:
- Compare prices on my favorite platform: Discovercars.com – one of the best rated comparison sites!
- Don’t choose a car too large, since some roads are very narrow
- Consider their full coverage option – it for peace of mind!
- Book early to have a large choice of vehicles!

Best time to visit Binibeca
The best time to visit Binibeca really depends on your tastes, expectations and the type of vacation you’re looking for. As Menorca enjoys a Mediterranean climate, it’s a destination you can visit all year round. Here are a few points to keep in mind, depending on the season:
- In summer: it’s peak tourist season, with sunny days and warm temperatures. Perfect for swimming and water sports. Note that the beach can be busier during vacation periods.
- In autumn: temperatures remain pleasant, although slightly cooler than in summer. There are also fewer tourists, which can make your on-site experience more peaceful.

- In winter: temperatures are cooler, but rarely very cold compared to other European destinations. You’ll enjoy peace and quiet, but some establishments may be closed at this time.
- In spring: temperatures warm up, but the region is still relatively quiet before the summer tourist influx. Nature is in full bloom, offering beautiful landscapes during your walks and swims.

Practical advice
- Deckchairs and parasols are available for hire on the beach.
- Public toilets are available on site.
- A drop-off bin for reusable beach accessories (children’s games, parasols, etc.) is available before you reach the sandbar.
- You can bring your own inflatable accessories and snorkelling masks.
- Before descending to the beach, there are a few steps and a slight slope, but no difficulty.
- Rentals for activities and water sports in Cala Torret, 10-15 min walk.
- Ideal beach for families with children, as the water is not very deep and there are not many waves.
- The beach is supervised by lifeguards during the season.
- Several parking lots nearby (see above).
- For a stay nearby, choose one of Binibeca’s highest-rated accommodations.

Where to stay in Menorca?
I recommend staying either close to one of the 2 main towns, Ciutadella or Port Mahon, or in one of the charming little villages all over the island. You’ll enjoy good restaurants, typical markets and their picturesque atmosphere. For example, you could opt for:
- Hotel Gran Melia Villa Le Blanc Hotel in Santo Tomas – View photos & availability
- Hotel Catalonia Mirador des Port, overlooking the natural harbour of Mahon – View photos & availabilities
- Hotel Smoix Hotel, in the old town of Ciutadella – View photos and availability

How to access Binibeca
In this section, I’ll explain how to access Binibeca, but don’t worry, it’s quite simple.
Road access
If you’re coming by road, you’ll arrive first on the main Me-1 highway, which is an expressway, then on the Me-8 or Me-10 roads, depending on whether you’re coming from the north or east (Port Mahon or Menorca airport) or the west (Ciutadella). Remember that there are no freeways in Menorca. Drive to Biniali, then continue on the Carretera de Binibequer. After just under 3km, turn left onto Carrer de s’Anguila Torta. The road is fairly easy, with few bends and no undulations. Be careful, though, especially at dusk, when there’s much less light, and keep to the speed limit.

When you reach Binibeca, check whether your hotel is at the entrance to the village or whether you should continue towards the beach. First you’ll have in front of you the descent to Cala Torret and then on the right, continuing a little to the west, the beach of Binibeca.

Access by sea (boat, kayak…)
Excursions by boat and kayak are also organized to enable you to visit Binibeca beach and Cala Torret cove. Places where I was able to admire an extraordinary sunset.

Did you know that Binibeca is home to one of the most beautiful sea caves on Menorca’s southeast coast? I named the Cueva del Bufador de Binibequer! I really loved this unique moment in the heart of the cave, cradled by the waves in my transparent kayak.

Access by bus
To reach this magnificent beach by bus, the 93 bus runs from Port Mahon to Binibeca with regular trips every day. Remember to check timetables and ticket prices here, and take some change too, as bank cards are not always accepted on public transport.

Binibeca and its beach
Binibeca beach in the south-east of Menorca is one of the most beautiful on the island. Its fine sand and turquoise waters adorned with catamarans and sailboats lend a singular beauty to the place. Despite its modest size, this beach remains, in my opinion, one of the most attractive in Menorca. It offers an authentic atmosphere on this charming sandbank. Thanks to its shallow waters and low waves, it’s also child-friendly.
Or take a stroll along the rocks to Binibequer’s Grotte du Bufador to see it “from above”. Or dive into the water with your mask to contemplate the local marine flora and fauna!

To find shops, restaurants, water sports equipment for hire, inflatable buoys and other beach games to delight young and old alike, you’ll need to head for Cala Torret or the village of Binibequer a little further east, either on foot or by car.
I don’t drink coffee
But I also like other drinks and sweets!

Village of Binibeca Vell
Built around a cove, this little white village in Menorca is well worth a visit, especially if you’re visiting Binibeca beach or Cala Torret! In Binibeca, no two houses are alike, each with its own charm and specificity, even if they’re all white. I loved losing myself in the narrow streets of the “old” village with its small shops. Did you know that “vell” means “old” in Catalan? In fact, there is a more recent area called Binibeca Nou, a residential district with a hotel complex. The Cami de Cavalls passes close to this village, but this part of the hiking trail is asphalted on this side of the island.

Cala Torret in Binibequer, magical sunset in Menorca
Cala Torret is a charming cove near the white coastal village of Binibeca Vell. It’s a popular spot for kayakers and sun-lovers, who enjoy magical moments lulled by the sound of ripples at sunrise and sunset.

The advantage? Whether you’re an experienced watersports enthusiast or a beginner, there’s something for everyone! In fact, it was from this cove that I set off on my transparent kayak.
I love it:
- The color of water
- Kayak around the creek to visit the sea caves
- Moored boats and yachts
- Snorkeling along the rocks
- Binibeca beach is a 10-minute walk from this cove

My favourite activity in Menorca
I highly recommend the Binibeca: guided transparent kayak tour.
In just 2 hours, you’ll experience an unforgettable moment: a glimpse of the turquoise waters without diving, in the magical coves, caves and beach of Binibeca.

El Bufador de Binibequer cave
The Bufador de Binibequer cave is located close to Binibeca beach on Menorca’s south coast. You can reach it on foot from the beach, walking carefully over the rocks. You’ll then be able to see the cave from above. Or you can do as I did and opt for a kayaking session to explore it from the sea. After paddling for around ten minutes, you’ll find yourself facing the mouth of the grotto. The wind can be quite strong, causing the kayak to drift. If you take this tour by choosing a guided excursion (which I recommend), the instructor on his own kayak will accompany you inside the cave. Diving trips to explore this cave are also organized.

A shaft of light gave me a glimpse of the turquoise-blue water at the heart of this stone lair.I was surprised to notice that the rock inside the cave was red, which testifies to the different types of geological landscapes in Menorca depending on the age of the stone.
It was an unforgettable moment when, seated in my transparent kayak, I could make out the algae on the seabed and, looking up, the many striations on the ceiling of Binibequer’s Cueva del Bufador.

Other nearby coves and beaches
Biniancolla beach and cove
Less than a 10-minute drive from Binibeca is the charming, peaceful cove of Biniancolla near Sant Lluis. On the other hand, you’ll find very few shops or hotels. The Hotel Barcelo Nura is one of the finest luxury hotels in the area, with outdoor pools forming waves from one space to the next, from the buffet restaurant to the lobby bar.

Punta Prima Beach
On the south-eastern tip of Menorca, Punta Prima beach is a 10-minute drive from Binibeca and 15 minutes from Port Mahon. It’s one of the island’s most popular seaside resorts.
Its white sandy beach and turquoise waters offer a splendid view of the Illa del Aire opposite and its lighthouse. The area is quite residential and peaceful, with numerous villas, resorts and private pools. Punta Prima beach is easy to get to, with plenty of shops and restaurants, fine sand and clear water.
