Queenstown is the world capital of adventure and it offers many activities. I am not much into buggy jumping or skydiving but I love seeing landscape from above. So I opted for an helicopter flight around Queenstown and a snow landing.
REVIEW – HELICOPTER FLIGHT QUEENSTOWN
I looooooove helicopters. Whenever I get the opportunity I jump on board and discover the beauty of the place from the air. I did in 3 times in Australia including one time over Uluru and another without doors, plus one time over the grand canyon and here in Queenstown. I also experienced hot air balloon in Morocco, floatplane in Rotorua and a very small airplane over Namibia. I think this tell you how much I like changing my perspective.
The only frustration is that pictures through the windows are not so great… but it will still give you an idea of the awesome experience.
REVIEW – ALPINE SCENIC HELICOPTER FLIGHT
I selected myself and paid fully for this activity. This review is based on my experience from March 2014.
Company: Glacier Southern Lakes
Tour: Alpine scenic, 35 min
Organization: Pick up & organization was smooth
Flight: flight was great, I felt very safe the all way. Equipment seems to be well maintained
Crew: Pilot and ground crew were very nice
Overall opinion: seeing the incredible shape of those mountains from the sky is certainly worth the tour. However I would not recommend the snow landing which did not add anything, to my perspective
Alpine scenery around Queesntown
The view was incredible right away as we flew away from Queenstown and over the wilderness.
The Snow Landing with helicopter
My original plan was to do a glacier landing but it was not running that day. So I settled for the snow landing with Glacier Southern Lakes. I would not recommend paying for the snow landing. It does not bring much. I think the glacier one should be cool and a simple flight over the surrounding mountains is already amazing.
And back to Queenstown
What I love with helicopters, is how close you get to the mountains. We even spotted some wild animals! But at some point I really worried we would hit the wall. I guess I need to fly more to get used to distance evaluation 🙂
I don’t drink coffee
But I also like other drinks and sweets!

I’m surprised that you were able to see wild animals from the helicopter! The picture you took of the mountain goats looks so close up. I’ve never ridden a helicopter before, but after reading this, I’d like to give it a go sometime. It seems like a great way to get a bird’s-eye view and see nature in a unique way. Thanks for sharing your experience!
