One of the famous sights in Garmish Partenkirschen is Partnach Gorge (Partnachklamm in German). After the beautiful open views of the mountains, and the green lake, you can cool down between those vertiginous walls.
INFO & PLANNING TIPS - Partnach Gorge
Partnach Gorge is a fascinating place where a tunnel has been carved in one of the wall to allow us to walk all the way up (702 metres (2,303 ft) long) and admire the cliffs that can reach 80 metres (260 ft) high. Walking along this tunnel gives a unique perspective on this narrow gorge.
Looking down you will see the glacier water flowing between those walls and looking up you get small waterfalls on a peak of the green lush forest above.
It is a great destination for a one day excursion from Munich.
TIPS FOR TRAVEL PLANNING ADDICTS - Partnach Gorge
Getting to Partnach Gorge
- You cannot reach the beginning of the gorge by car. You have to Park at the Stadium and walk already uphill 25 min before the start. Another option is the horse carriage.
- You can reach the ski stadium (Skistadion stop) with the bus Line 2. But be aware that the busse to the city center are not very frequent on the weekend. I was too tired to walk back to the city and missed the bus by one minute… the wait was very long!
