Uluru is such a majestic and magical place. This huge rock getting out of the flat desert is already surreal in the day, but as the sun sets or rises, its orange color shines and can change from yellow to red. An incredible experience!

TIPS FOR TRAVEL PLANNING ADDICTS - Uluru Sunset / Sunrise spots
Below is a map with the location of the sunrise and sunset platforms at Uluru:

ALREADY STUNNING IN DAYLIGHT
From every angle, Uluru is already amazing in daylight.

First sunset at the car viewing platform
that first sunset included some great clouds but the sun rays got blocked and the colors of Uluru did not become as vibrant as they could have been.

SUNRISE PLATFORM
The early wake up is well worth the effort. This time the platform is on the other side and we discover a very different shape of Uluru.

SECOND SUNSET AT BUS PLATFORM
I had the chance to see another sunset, this time from the bus platform. This time, the colors changed quite dramatically!

DESERT AWAKENING TOUR
Another option for sunrise is to take the organized Desert awakening tour. With a small group and a guide you start your day pre-dawn on a sand dunes in the desert. As the sun rises, you enjoy the changes in colors while tasting a traditional Aussie breakfast. Then you discover the tracks of animals and plants of the desert before getting to several stops around uluru and finish at the Cultural centre.
REVIEW FOR TRAVEL PLANNING ADDICTS - Desert Awakening Tour
I selected my self and paid fully for this activity. This review is based on my experience from August 2010.
- Activity: Desert Awakening
- Organisation: very good, small group
- Guide: nice and knowledgeable
- What I loved: the feeling of being in the desert for the first rays of light
- What I was disappointed with: the location. I was expecting a better view of Uluru. See in the pictures below.

One of the best location in the world for sunset, don't you think?
