As I always like to take another point of view on things, I decided on my last day in Namibia to take a scenic flight from Swakopmund. We flew over a canyon, the huge sand dunes of Sossusvlei and the coast and its seals colonies.

INFO & REVIEW- SCENIC FLIGHT OVER NAMIBIA
The first 15 minutes were a bit difficult as I felt claustrophobic with the sun heating this very small plane (which I am not normally). I thought ‘how will I survive 2 hours?’. But some very cold water provided by the pilot and some deep breathing and I managed.
We flew over the whitish/yellowish desert around Swakopmund, above a canyon, above the amazing dunes of Sossusvlei (where I enjoyed a sunrise at the beginning of my trip), the pan and then back along the coast with 2 shipwrecks and the impressive seal colonies (the Shaunee and Edoard Bohlen).
REVIEW FOR TRAVEL PLANNING ADDICTS - Scenic Flight over Namibia
First of all, I have selected myself and paid fully for that tour. This review is based on my own experience in November 2012.
- Tour: 2h Scenic flight over Namibia
- Plane: seemed in good condition although very small
- Pilot: very ice, and I felt them with his flying skills
- Organisation: no issues except with the booking, but it is often with with flying tours as they need to fill them.
Flying over the Kuiseb Canyon
The flight started South East of Swakopmund over the dried Kuiseb river bed covered in trees. The scenery became later a canyon.

Flying over the Tsondabvlei and Sossusvlei Sand dunes
Flying over the giant sand dunes of Sossusvlei was my favorite part, the different shapes and the different colors. My face and cameras were glued to the windows. This was so mesmerizing.
Below is a short video of the flight above the sand dunes
Flying over the pan
Flying over the coast: seals colonies and shipwrecks
We returned back to Swakopmund flying over the coast: there were so many seals colony it was really impressive. I would have never thought there could me that many. And we also spotted wrecks (although not the famous ones of the skeleton coast way up North).
