Namibian snakes can be dangerous… But not the way you think

Last updated on February 4, 2014 by Claire / this article contains affiliate links (Info)

The danger of snakes… you are thinking bite or suffocation… but this is something completely different which forced us to visit a countryside Namibian clinic…

We were driving in direction of the Kalahari Desert, next stop in our group tour of South Namibia, when our driver suddenly stopped our bus.

He turned to us with a great smile: “a cape Cobra!”

And here it was crossing the road and entering the bush unaware that we almost drove on him.

Snake in Namibia

Well, we enjoyed the wild encounter but sadly this too sudden of a stop damaged our tire.

So for the second time in the week we all got out of the bus and our guide started its work with the camp assistant.

Fixing the tire

So we were all wandering around, working on our tan, stretching our leg (lucky that there are not many vehicles on the Namibian Roads… ) but the screws would not move. They tried and tried and tried until…(suspense)… something skipped and the assistant’s finger was covered in blood because of a deep cut.

That’s it. Sorry. I am sure you were expecting / hoping for an incredible story facing wild animals like in Peter Allison’s books but this is all that happen. Travel is not always crazy!

Do not miss my 10 favorite photos of this 2 week trip in Namibia!

Lucky for him we were not far from the small town of Gochas and the doctor was available to see him at the small clinic. He got his nail removed and a few stitches, our guide paid 4 dollars and we were back on the road!

Next stop: Kalahari desert!
