Kyrgyzstan offers many surprises. My favorite was on our drive from Kazarman to Arslanbob when after admiring beautiful green and white scenery, we encountered a group of horses and cows between two walls of snow.

TIPS FOR TRAVEL PLANNING ADDICTS

Driving between Kazarman and Arslanbob

  • Kazarman to Jalal Abad - this is the most  difficult part of the drive especially at the beginning with narrow tortuous road in bad condition
  • Around Jalal Abad the roads are in very good condition.
  • After Jelal Abad take the high speed road M41 towards Kochkor.
  • After Bazar Korgon, turn North to the forest of Arslanbob. There is more traffic on this road.  The village of Arslanbob is at the end of the road
  • Kazarman is not accessible in Winter

Kazarman

Kazarman is a very quiet town right in the middle of Kyrgyzstan. It is located near a gold mine which is not providing enough employment anymore. Plus it has one of the most extreme weather in Kyrgyzstan due to is 'low' altitude of 1200m and its surrounding mountains.

We walked a little and drove to get some gas. There are many abandonned cars and the building are not in good conditions. Our small guesthouse was nice with an outside area to relax.

Leaving Arslanbob

Not long after leaving Arslanbonb we stopped at a statue in the middle of nowhere surrounded by beautiful landscapes.

I am going through my notebook and apprently I did not right anything about it. Sorry...

A difficult road

The beignning of the road to Jalal Abad was not easy. The unpaved tracked was not in good condition and it turned a lot with poor visibility.

Walls of snow

As we appraoched the mountain pass, there was more and more snow creating impressive walls on the side of the road (I visited mid- June). At this stage to road was very wide and although turning a lot, it was a pleasant drive.

2 walls of snow and many animals

As we turned and turned we reached a mountain path with huge walls of snow on each side. And then surprise! A group of horses followed by cows were arriving accross from us taking the whole road. What a great sight! Plus one of the men leading the animals was obviously as excited to see us as we were to see them.

A truly unbelievable moment. And yet it happened!

Agricultural area of Jala-Abad

The area around Jelal Abad is less mountainous and at lower atitude allowing some agriculture. It is hence a richer region. theat was quite obvious based on the houses, the good condition of the roads and the cars.

Driving up to Arlansbob

The drive up to Arslanbob was not as fascinating to me and I don't have many pictures
