Het was vroeger een processieroute voor koningen en koninginnen.<\/p>\n\n<p>Meer foto&#8217;s na de planningstips.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tab-con-1\"><strong>Planningstips &#8211; De Royal Mile in Edinburgh<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Locatie<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>De Royal Mile ligt in het hart van Edinburgh en is een aaneenschakeling van straten door het oude stadsgedeelte &#8211; waaronder High Street.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Het begint bij het Edinburgh Castle en eindigt bij het Holyroodhouse Palace<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Er zijn geen parkeerplaatsen. Ik raad altijd aan om in Edinburgh te wandelen of de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getyourguide.nl\/edinburgh-l44\/city-tour-grand-24-or-48-hour-ticket-t36220\/?partner_id=R3GYW4V&amp;cmp=ZZ_Scotland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">hop on hop off bus<\/a> te nemen.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Als u echter niet ver weg wilt parkeren, is er de parkeerplaats Edinburgh Castle Terrace, aan de andere kant van Castle Hill. Wees dus voorzichtig, u moet het grootste deel delen met gekke chauffeurs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Voornamelijk souvenirwinkels in het grootste deel, verrassend genoeg waren er niet zo veel restaurants<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>De tijd om de mijl te lopen hangt af van waar u stopt en wat u besluit te bezoeken &#8211; Wikipedia heeft een <a style=\"outline: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_closes_on_the_Royal_Mile\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lijst van de closes<\/a>.<br\/>Deze Closes ruimten werden meestal vernoemd naar een gedenkwaardige bewoner van een appartement of een handel die daar plaatsvond.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Scotland\/17b-Royal-Mile\/i-ZsG4PPT\/0\/M\/Royal_Mile_Edinburgh_Scotland_IMG_8458-M.jpg\" alt=\"De Royal Mile Edinburgh Schotland - Close 3\" title=\"De Royal Mile Edinburgh Schotland - Close 3\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>De Closes die het dichtst bij het kasteel liggen kunnen steile hellingen hebben. Het is links van de stadskamers.<br\/>Hier kunt u deelnemen aan een 1 uur durende rondleiding en de vele verborgen straatjes uit de 17e eeuw bezoeken.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tab-con-3\"><strong>Andere dingen die u kunt doen en zien op de Royal Mile  <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Hub<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p>Het eerste gebouw dat u opvalt als u over de Royal Mile loopt, is dit smalle torenhoge gebouw. Het heet nu The Hub, een conferentieoord (eerst dacht ik dat het de kathedraal was die ik u later in dit artikel zal laten zien). Het is de thuisbasis van het Edinburgh International Festival.<\/p>\n\n<p>Het is een mix van modern design en Victoriaanse architectuur. de torenspits domineert het centrum van Edinburgh. Verrassend genoeg werd het tussen 1842 en 1845 gebouwd. En niet zo verwonderlijk, het werd vroeger gebruikt als kerk en algemene assembleehal voor de kerk van Schotland.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Scotland\/17b-Royal-Mile\/i-JgFJ6sQ\/0\/L\/Royal_Mile_Edinburgh_Scotland_IMG_8373-L.jpg\" alt=\"Begin van de Royal Mile edinburgh - Edinburgh Castle 2\" title=\"Begin van de Royal Mile edinburgh - Edinburgh Castle 2\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Scotland\/17b-Royal-Mile\/i-pCMCTTf\/0\/M\/Royal_Mile_Edinburgh_Scotland_IMG_8377-M.jpg\" alt=\"Royal Mile Edinburgh Schotland - The Hub 2\" title=\"Royal Mile Edinburgh Schotland - The Hub 2\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tab-con-6\"><strong>St Giles Cathedral<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p>Een van de belangrijkste monumenten aan de Royal Mile Edinburgh is de St Giles Cathedral, ook bekend als de High Kirk of Edinburgh.<br\/>Het beroemdste kenmerk is de kroonvormige torenspits. Het werd aan het eind van de 14e eeuw gebouwd en in de 19e gerestaureerd. Het is gewijd aan St Giles, de beschermheilige van Edinburgh.<br\/>Het staat op een derde van de Royal Mile (het dichtst bij het kasteel).<br\/>De kathedraal zit vol kleurrijke gebrandschilderde ramen.
